What Are Infoproducts & How They Can Boost Your Book Sales
by Deborah Woehr
Infoproducts are best described as How-To collections in the forms of manuals, CDs, DVDs, videos, audio cassettes, and ebooks. How-to books, videos, and audio cassettes have been available for decades. But it was the Internet Marketer who coined the term "Infoproduct."
People have bought these packages for hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars to get the information on how to start a business and market it effectively. The big guns of Internet Marketing (such as Corey Rudl, Yanik Silver, Marlon Sanders, etc.), have raked in millions of dollars in revenue by selling these courses and products.
How will selling infoproducts benefit me as a writer?
You can create these spin-off products for your print books. Let's say you've written a non-fiction book about alternative ways to teach ADHD children. Would a video of you teaching your child (or a classroom, if you're a special ed teacher) how to get past the barriers of this disorder and excel in school? You bet it would!
Including testimonials from satisfied parents may make your course an instant bestseller. As added bonuses, you can give them:
Special reports geared toward your subject
ebooks
Your print book
Instant access to your exclusive website
Discount coupons for your future books
You can sell these items individually on your website, or package them together for a discounted price. It's up to you.
Fiction writers can take advantage of this, too. Let's say you've published your historical romance novel with iUniverse. How can you create infoproducts to promote your book and make more sales?
1. Create an ebook or manual, using your research material. You can then turn around and sell it to other historical romance writers as well as history buffs.
2. Create an audio CD or ebook of your novel. Not everyone has the time to sit down and read books. That is why the audiobook industry has grown over the past five years. I've known many people who have listened to audio books during their commutes.
3. Write an informative report on how to write historical romance novels, offering tips and tricks to make the writing process easier.
4. Write an informative guide about your chosen historial time period, outlining some of the key events that occurred. Imagine how this could help students and writers alike.
5. Create a niche community for historical romance, listing all the resources you used to research for your novel. Check the Internet for similar communities before you start this endeavor to see if you can offer something unique. Offer access as a special bonus or at a discount.
As you can see infoproducts are a great way to broaden your audience reach by using more than one format, which makes your book accessible to readers and nonreaders alike! Not only that, but you can turn a special hobby into a lucrative venture that will help you raise money for your more creative endeavors.
